Kris Boyd believes Van Bronckhorst has a ‘lack of trust’ in his Rangers squad
Kris Boyd believes Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s ‘lack of trust’ in his Rangers squad has cost them the Scottish Premiership title this season.
Rangers reached the Europa League semi-final in midweek with a huge 3-1 win over Braga after extra-time, but have seen a six point lead at the top of the table reversed and now trail Celtic in the title race.
Boyd, writing in his Scottish Sun column, believes that the reason for that swing domestically is because the boss doesn’t trust his whole squad and is asking players to run on empty.

“Thursdays have been magnificent for Rangers, though it has been a case of not liking Sundays too often this season,” he said.
“They have been invincible in Europe one minute and then pretty vulnerable domestically the next. It is a strange conundrum to get your head around.
“The lack of trust the manager clearly has in some players has certainly hindered them on the home front. Playing guys who are running on empty has not helped Rangers’ cause domestically.
“And if he asks too many of the Braga heroes to go to the well against Celtic on Sunday, there will only be one outcome.”
Trust
Trust is something that all the top and successful teams have in their squad, and it’s something that isn’t entirely there among the Rangers side yet.
Van Bronckhorst has a core group of about 15 players that he trusts among his squad, and he has relied heavily on using them as much as he can to get through the season.

That was bound to bite him at some point and with Alfredo Morelos picking up a season-ending injury, he was forced to call upon players he isn’t entirely convinced on.
That sort of message travels through the squad to the players and it makes them hesitate when picking a final pass or making a decision in game, which could be the difference between winning and losing.
It’s something that must be addressed during the summer so that the manager has a squad he fully believes in, but he can begin to start looking at it in the remainder of this season to give his side a big chance of success in the remaining games.
