Kris Boyd stunned live on Sky Sports at Rangers-linked Ross Stewart

Kris Boyd has been left stunned by Sunderland forward Ross Stewart after he was linked with Rangers this week.

The Sky Sports pundit labelled the striker as “unbelievable” live on air as the English calendar included Good Friday fixtures.

The Northern Echo reported this week that the Bears were in a three-way race with Norwich and Swansea in the summer.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Gilette Soccer Special on Good Friday [15 April, 14:45], Boyd was stunned by the Scotsman.

“We’ve seen a progression from him,” he said. “The turnaround to what he’s actually doing, it’s obviously a bonus when you’re scoring goals.

“It’s the other thing that Ross Stewart does for me, he works ever so hard for the team. He’s been linked with Rangers this week, he’s at a good age now, 25, but I think it’s his work ethic is unbelievable.”

Not good enough?

Is this a big enough name to really come in and make a difference at Ibrox heading into next season?

We don’t think so.

Stewart may work hard and has scored plenty of goals this season, but that is in League One and he hasn’t really been prolific before that.

A spell at Ross County may have shown us that he doesn’t have enough to make it at the top level in Scotland, but that was obviously years ago.

With Alfredo Morelos likely to be the subject of strong transfer interest in the summer, if he goes, we need a big name to come.

That would not be Stewart, and there would likely be an outrage if that was the path that Ross Wilson decided to go down.
