Rangers favourite Derek Johnstone backs club to overturn deficit against Braga

Ex-Rangers stalwart Derek Johnstone has backed his former side to reach the Europa League semi-finals by getting past Braga in tonight’s tie.

The Gers welcome their Portuguese counterparts to Ibrox tonight in a gargantuan second leg which could see them reach a first European semi-final since they reached the UEFA Cup final in 2008.

Braga hold a slender one-goal advantage from the first leg but Johnstone believes his former club have the necessary ability to bring it back.

“The first game against Braga, a one-goal deficit they can claw that back tonight, but they’re going to have to play a lot better,” he told Sky Sports outside Ibrox today (14 April).

“The Rangers fans will be saying to themselves what a chance we’ve got to (get to) the semi-finals. It’s a massive night

“They’ll be 50,000 crammed in here expecting Rangers to go through.

“When you think 10 years ago where Rangers were… to come all the way through and all of a sudden get to a semi-final of a European trophy that would be absolutely unbelievable.”

Huge Night

As far as European nights go, this is the biggest Rangers have faced in well over a decade.

It was a disappointing display in Portugal but with major scalps such as Borussia Dortmund already under their belt, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his men must be confident of overturning their first leg disadvantage in front of a boisterous Ibrox crowd.

Kemar Roofe is fresh off scoring a hat-trick against St Mirren in the Premier League fixture at the weekend and is surely licking his lips at the chance to lead the line in such a crucial fixture.

And with the Scottish Cup semi-final against old firm rivals Celtic coming up on Sunday, this is the perfect chance for Rangers to flip their season from the disappointment of relinquishing their league title to the ecstasy of domestic and European glory.

In other Rangers news, the club are reportedly looking at this EFL striker.
