Mark Hateley tells Kemar Roofe to prove himself to Rangers fans and teammates
Kemar Roofe ‘100 percent’ has something to prove to Rangers fans and his teammates, despite scoring his first hat-trick for the club against St Mirren according to Mark Hateley.
The Jamaica international scored three in the 4-0 win on Sunday as he looked to cement himself as Alfredo Morelos’ replacement in the team as the first-choice striker.
Roofe said after the game that he had nothing to prove to anyone, but BBC pundit Hateley says that he should always be looking to prove himself to show he can maintain that standard of performance.
“100 per cent he has something to prove,” he told Sky Sports.
“You see when you’re playing for a big club like this, you’re having to prove yourself week in, week out. Not only yourself, but more importantly to the fans and your teammates. You’ve got to be proving.
“Week in, week out you’ve got to prove yourself, that you’re better than the week before. You’ve got to prove it to everybody that you’re playing with, that can maintain that standard.
“And that’s what you do when you’re playing for big clubs. That’s why you get paid the big money and that’s why you want to be at the top.”
Mentality
Rangers are in a position where their entire season can be decided on the back of two weeks worth of performances in April.
Defeat to Celtic and Braga was followed by a thumping win against St Mirren, but they now face return fixtures against both Celtic and Braga where they can get back on track.

Roofe is key to that, because since Morelos’ absence was confirmed they have looked blunt in front of goal prior to the weekend’s victory.
But after a hat-trick for the former Leeds man, he can be the man to lead the team to get their wins back and claim glory in two different competitions with the league title looking out of reach.
He needs to have a hungry mentality to be able to do that, just like Morelos, where he feels he has a point to prove. Otherwise he will become complacent and will lose the edge to his game that makes the best players who they are.
