Kris Boyd baffled to see Steven Davis not used by Rangers regularly

Kris Boyd is baffled to see that Rangers midfielder Steven Davis does not play regularly for the club.

Davis came off the bench to replace the injured John Lundstram, and Boyd has suggested that his former teammate should be involved more.

After two defeats in a row, the Gers returned to winning ways with a 4-0 win against St Mirren on Sunday.

Boyd, who was working on Sky Sports as a pundit for the game, said (as relayed by The Scottish Sun): “You can see with the second goal Stevie Davis’ first thought is how to take four players out of the game with a pass.

“He plays it into Aaron Ramsey who plays it out wide and Roofe heads home from the cross.

“Steven should be playing. I have played with him and I know what he can do. He controls games, we have seen it again in the game.

“Why he can’t get into the team is baffling. He is still a fantastic footballer. He’s arguably, for me, the best midfielder Rangers have.”

Will he start v Braga?

One of the major criticisms against Van Bronckhorst is that he doesn’t rotate his squad enough.

Davis is still a top-class player and he should be used regularly, even if it means using him from the bench.

His performance after coming on was pure class and the 37-year-old showed he still has got enough quality to influence a game.

John Lundstram is touch-and-go for Thursday after he picked up a groin injury, and should he miss out, Van Bronckhorst will have to look for other options.

Will Davis play a part? His experience could be handy as Rangers need to score at home, having lost 1-0 in the first leg.

Van Bronckhorst should also start with Kemar Roofe who scored a brilliant hat-trick on Sunday. He was dropped in the first leg in Portugal but should get the nod ahead of Fashion Sakala.

Rangers have beaten the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Red Star Belgrade, and another strong performance at home could see them progress into the next round.
