Keith Jackson slams Douglas Park ahead of Rangers v Braga

Rangers will look to progress to the semi-final of the Europa League when they face Braga in the second leg on Thursday at Ibrox.

The Daily Record columnist, Keith Jackson, has suggested that a grand occasion like this doesn’t come around frequently and that Rangers are more than capable of winning the tie.

He has also blamed the Gers chairman Douglas Park and other board members for their lack of leadership, saying it has turned the club into a “paranoid schizophrenic” of Scottish football.

“By sanctioning this ‘no-one-likes-us-we-don’t-care’ approach to going about their business, invisible chairman Douglas Park and his increasingly beleaguered board have turned their club into some sort of pariah,” wrote Jackson for the Daily Record.

“Their snarling faced diplomacy has turned Rangers into the paranoid schizophrenic of Scottish football, seemingly convinced that the world is out to get them.

“Yes, their domestic title may be about to change hands but Thursday night offers the chance for a spectacular redemption on the European stage.

“If Van Bronckhorst can find a way of getting the best out of his team, even without Alfredo Morelos leading the attack, then Rangers ought to be more than capable of overturning a one-goal deficit from last week’s first leg in Portugal.

“Opportunities like this one don’t come round these parts very often. Scottish football should hope Rangers to grab it with both hands.”

Capable

The Gers suffered a 1-0 defeat against Braga in the first leg in Portugal.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst started with Fashion Sakala in that game in the absence of Alfredo Morelos and the decision completely backfired.

However, it seems the Bears have now regrouped themselves after winning 4-0 against St Mirren on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership.

Kemar Roofe scored a hattrick while Joe Aribo also got his name on the scoresheet.

Rangers

Rangers have defeated better teams than Braga already in the Europa League, and there is no reason to believe why they can’t turn it around at Ibrox.

The league is almost out of their reach but they still have plenty to look forward to. Along with the Europa League, they have a semi-final cup meeting against Celtic on Sunday.

Jackson is absolutely spot on with his verdict on the Rangers board. In exciting times like these when they should be aiming to improve their brand image, instead, they are fighting among themselves and constantly making blunders off the pitch.
