We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Rangers could take their commercial growth to an all new level should they qualify for the Champions League next season.

That’s according to Dr Dan Plumley who claims that the Ibrox giants will be in great shape financially as they’re already on the verge of a multi-million windfall.

Football Insider reported in March that the club are on the cusp of announcing revenues of up to £70million.

They will be in line for additional revenue if they win the league which will lead to them qualifying for the Champions League.

Discussing whether this could mean wholesale changes for the club, the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Ibrox News:

“There is potential for growth but some of that is outside of their control as well, which is important.

“Any further commercial growth will be driven by things like the Champions League because they will continue to dominate in Scotland but the growth of the Scottish TV deals has not been as big as other leagues.

“The revenue gap is huge. You’re talking about a £50million increase if you get into that competition in the group stages and have a decent run in the group.

“The crowds have always been pretty good at Rangers so they know where their revenues can come from.

Rangers are currently playing catch up in the SPFL and will need Celtic to slip up to win the title.

This month’s Old Firm defeat, sees Gers six points behind their rivals with only a handful of games to go.

In other Rangers news, the club have terminated a major deal citing a breach of contract which also comprises of significant branding issues.
