Peter Martin: Fashion Sakala has no future at Rangers beyond this season

Peter Martin has insisted that Fashion Sakala has no future at Rangers beyond this current season at Ibrox.

The attacker led the line from the start in the 1-0 defeat against Braga last night in the Europa League quarter-final first leg.

BBC pundit Tam McManus admitted that Sakala is just a squad player, with no real prospects when Alfredo Morelos is fit.

Speaking live on the PLZ Football Show today [08 April], Martin made his point very clearly regarding the future of Sakala.

“I don’t think he’s got a future there,” he said. “There’s no real lethal bit about him.”

McManus reacted to his prediction, and it wasn’t as though he strongly disagreed with the big, big claim.

“He’s kind of a squad player.”

Not good enough?

It is hard to see what level Sakala is currently at.

He finally got his chance to lead the line last night and utilise his pace, but he looked scared to stretch his legs in behind for whatever reason.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be considering his options over the summer, with some big changes clearly needing to be made at Ibrox.

There will be big question marks surrounding the likes of Connor Goldson, Morelos and Ryan Kent, so that may lead to Sakala sticking around.

New transfers will be on the cards throughout the squad too, and more competition will likely come in.

Sakala is still only in his first year at Ibrox, though, and he has to be given more of a chance to prove himself.

If, say, after another season he has not hit the heights we expected, then would be the time that he may have to look elsewhere.
