Allan McGregor shares Rangers contract stance ahead of Braga clash

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has insisted he is solely focussing on football rather than his ongoing contract speculation.

The Gers veteran is out of contract in the summer with a decision yet to be made on his Ibrox future.

The 40-year-old joked with Alan Hutton ahead of the Light Blues’ Europa League semi-final against Braga by saying that lifting the trophy would be a nice good off.

He told BT Sport via Daily Record: “You just need to wait and see what happens.

“At this stage, it’s not year by year, it’s month by month, and day by day, you see how you feel.

“I’m not really thinking about it just now, I’m just thinking about the game on Thursday (Braga).”

Hutton then asks could it get better than ending his career with a European final, and a smirking McGregor added: “Well if you won it that would be good aye.”

Legend

Everything points in the direction of this being McGregor’s last season.

Jon McLaughlin looks set to come in as the Bears’ number one in-between the sticks having recently signed a new contract keeping him at the club until 2024.

The shot-stopper will be hugely disappointed that he won’t be lifting the Scottish Premiership title to round things off or at least it seems that way following the Bears’ devastating loss to Celtic at Ibrox.

He will have some comfort having won the league last season, but he undoubtedly would have wanted to one-up his Glaswegian rivals one last time in terms of the league.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side can still give him the send the keeper deserves though.

Rangers find themselves in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup and whilst winning either of them would be very difficult it would be a brilliant send-off for McGregor – one he truly deserves.

In other Rangers news, BBC pundit Cammy Bell has backed Kemar Roofe to start against Braga.
