BBC pundit Cammy Bell backs Rangers ace Kemar Roofe to start v Braga

Cammy Bell believes Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will start forward Kemar Roofe despite his poor performance last time out.

The 29-year-old had a very forgettable day leading the Gers line as Celtic with star striker Alfredo Morelos out injured.

There have been calls for Fashion Sakala to be given an opportunity to prove himself against Braga, but Bell his European experience will see the Englishman backed to go again.

The BBC pundit said on the Go Radio Football Show: “Kemar Roofe – again I felt that as if he was quite isolated on Sunday in that game.

“I don’t think he had his best game but I think GVB will stick with him. In Europe, he can get them up the pitch a little bit more, he is clever with his body strength and he has got experience.

“He has done well in European games so I think he will be looking to give him another opportunity.”

Best of the rest

You have to feel for Roofe somewhat. His performance against Celtic was well below par but what do you expect?

He has been rotting on the bench for most of the season which hardly puts him in good stead for the Light Blues’ biggest game of the season.

He comes on and can be a brilliant impact player at times but in an Old Firm with the title on the line, van Bronckhorst needs his strongest team at their very best and Roofe is not a part of that.

He has a huge job to do now though with it looking likely Morelos will be out for the remainder of the season.

There is a lot of football to play but with the league now looking out of the Bears’ reach, both the Europa League and Scottish Cup are must-wins if Rangers want to look back on this season as a success.

Roofe has big boots to fill and it will be interesting to see if he can live up to the task.
