Ally McCoist shares concern for Rangers in absence of Alfredo Morelos

Ally McCoist has admitted he is ‘concerned’ by the lack of goalscoring threat in the Rangers side without Alfredo Morelos for the rest of the season.

The Colombian striker has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a thigh injury, leaving Giovanni van Bronckhorst a bit short on goals up front.

McCoist, who was working for BT Sport as a pundit for the game v Braga, admitted that the 25-year-old’s absence adds big pressure to the game of Ryan Kent and Fashion Sakala who will be tasked with replacing his goals.

“Well they didn’t do it [cope without Morelos] that well at the weekend,” he said.

“I’m a little bit concerned about the lack of goalscoring threat in the Rangers side. Ramsey missing, the goalscorer from the weekend, again is a big disappointment.

“But there’s more emphasis now and pressure on Sakala and Ryan Kent.”

Huge

Morelos is an absolutely huge miss for Rangers for the rest of the season but for more than just his goals, but his presence on the pitch.

‘El Buffalo’ is the record scorer for the club in European competition, but his unrelenting energy and his constant ability to be a nuisance to opposition defenders makes him a nightmare to play against.

Rangers

Without him in the side, the squad is severely lacking in goals and just a general focal point in attacking areas that is proven at the top level.

Kemar Roofe was awful against Celtic and has shown that his overall game is poor in comparison, despite being a good finisher, and Sakala is largely untested.

Van Bronckhorst will need to find a solution to get the rest of his attackers to step up and chip in to help cover his absence, or their season will start to crumble at the worst possible time.
