Ally McCoist fumes at Connor Goldson after Rangers moment v Braga live on BT Sport

Ally McCoist has fumed at Rangers defender Connor Goldson in the opening 45 minutes against Braga in the Europa League this evening.

The Bears enforcer gave possession away leaving his side wide open at the back, with Calvin Bassey saving the day.

McCoist labelled the distribution of Goldson as “slack” as he simply looked uncomfortable in the middle of the park.

Speaking live on BT Sport this evening [07 April, 08:20 pm), McCoist was not impressed with what he saw from the defender.

“Goldson looked uncomfortable in the forward areas,” he said.

“Then came a slack pass.”

Slack.

These are the moments that we cannot afford to happen.

Goldson has made numerous mistakes throughout the knockout stages of the Europa League, but he has also stood tall in some big moments.

VAR did eventually save Rangers as the home side thought they had taken the lead minutes after this incident, but we cannot rely on that too often.

These are the quarter-finals of the Europa League, there are no easy games no matter what has been said, and this is a message that needs to be reminded at half-time.

Our defending has been nothing short of slack so far in Portugal, and Goldson needs to set an example to those beside him.

That means not making silly avoidable mistakes like giving the ball away by trying to make stupid passes, keep it simple.

Leon Balogun clearly didn’t get that message with a nightmare few minutes which led to Abel Ruiz scoring the opener.
