Clubs to ‘under-bid’ for Alfredo Morelos, he’s done at Rangers after Tuesday news – BBC pundit

Tam McManus predicts clubs to “under-bid” for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos in the summer as he enters the last year of his contract.

Morelos, 25, won’t play for the Light Blues again this season after it was confirmed yesterday [5 April] that the Colombia international has undergone surgery on a thigh injury.

With it looking likely that the Gers will miss out on the Scottish Premiership title this season and, therefore, a guaranteed Champions League group stage spot, McManus feels that Morelos is done at Ibrox now he’s had this injury.

“Will he play for Rangers again? I think that’s the question a lot of Rangers supporters will be asking,” said McManus, as shown in a clip on the PLZ Soccer Twitter account on Wednesday [6 April].

“I think a lot of people thought if Rangers didn’t get in the Champions League next [season], he’ll be away.

“I dont think he’ll play again for Rangers. I think they’ll sell him.

” It comes at a crucial point where Rangers will want him to keep playing well to keep pushing his value up and his price tag up.

“Maybe somebody will come in and try to under-bid now.

“It’s a blow for the player and for Rangers as a club for getting the biggest fee they thought possible for the summer.”

Bye-bye, El Bufalo

Listen, we’ve done well to keep hold of Morelos for as long as we have.

Since joining the Gers from HJK Helsinki in 2017, El Bufalo has scored 113 goals and supplied 51 assists in 224 appearances across all competitions.

He’s fired us to the Europa League quarter-finals and to the 2021/22 Scottish Premiership title.

If we can’t guarantee Morelos a spot in the Champions League group stages next season, then it’s unlikely he’ll sign a new contract and that means we’ll have no choice but to sell him.

We know that this article will get responses from fans saying that we don’t need to sell and that Morelos isn’t going anywhere.

But it’s time to accept that we have not got better this season because the recruitment has been terrible in the last couple of years and the squad has grown stale.

In order to invest in the side, we need to start selling players and that means the likes of Morelos need to be moved on.

We have no idea what sort of fee he could get for the Light Blues due to his contractual situation, which is probably why he – and others – should have been sold last summer instead of allowing their value to plummet.

It’s bad leadership behind the scenes. It’s stubbornness that in the long-term, won’t pan out well.

In other Rangers news, this 28-year-old is now Ross Wilson’s number one target for the summer transfer window.
