Rory Wilson can be Alfredo Morelos’ replacement at Rangers

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was hit with the news yesterday that Rangers’ top scorer Alfredo Morelos was out for the season through injury.

The club confirmed on their official website that the Colombian had undergone surgery on his thigh and wouldn’t return until pre-season for the 2022-23 season.

It is a huge blow for the Light Blues given how crucial his goals have been in both their Scottish Premiership and Europa League endeavours.

But when one door closes, another always opens and maybe van Bronckhorst could call upon one of the club’s hottest young talents to step into Morelos’ sizeable Ibrox shoes.

Rory Wilson has been turning a lot of heads while playing for the Gers’ youth teams after bagging a whopping 40 goals so far this season.

Even at 16 years of age, he is playing to a standard way beyond his years and he is unsurprisingly attracting interest from a lot of clubs.

Aston Villa [Daily Record], Brighton [Scottish Daily Express], Liverpool, Manchester United, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Manchester City [all Daily Star] are all in the race for the 16-year-old.

If Rangers want to keep Wilson in Scotland beyond the end of this season, they might have to offer him some first-team football sooner rather than later and this is a great chance to do that.

With nearly a miracle required to hold onto their Scottish Premiership crown, Wilson could easily be thrown into the limelight while surrounded by experienced campaigners to prove his worth.

If he starts to find the net, then the club can then offer him a professional deal and hope that he accepts and begins his senior career in Glasgow rather than south of the border.

Morelos may have played his last game for the Light Blues with interest surrounding him too but Wilson could be about to play his first of many.

In other Rangers news, the club want to make a statement in the summer with this marquee signing from abroad.
