Brian Laudrup urges Rangers board to back GvB in transfer market
Brian Laudrup has urged Rangers board to back Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the summer transfer window.
The former Rangers player opines that the Dutchman has been a “success” at the club, despite two Old Firm defeats.
However, he suggests that proper backing in the summer transfer market is needed for the club to progress.

“Giovanni replaced Steven Gerrard at a difficult time in the season and he’s only had one transfer window to add to the team,” wrote Laudrup for the Daily Mail (05 April – page 74).
“He needs time and he needs to go into next season on the back of a huge transfer window.
“He needs the backing of Rangers for that. Then, I’m sure he will get things right.
“For me, he has been a success. I know some people will say they were six points ahead and now they are not near the title.
“But he has done extremely well in Europe and Rangers are in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup. Give him some time and then we can judge.”
Big summer
Laudrup is absolutely spot on with his observations.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has inherited the squad from Steven Gerrard at a difficult time and he needs at least one or two transfer windows to stamp his own authority.
The Dutchman needs to bring in three to four quality players in the summer, and even more if Alfredo Morelos leaves the club.

Morelos will enter the final year of his contract and the Gers should look to offload him if they can’t agree to a deal with him.
Connor Goldson is another player who is set to leave as a free agent at the end of the season.
The Gers may have already signed his replacement with John Souttar set to join the club in the summer after agreeing pre-contract in January.
Having said that, the January transfer window was a disaster. The players signed didn’t step up and it has hampered the team as a result.
In other Rangers news, we believe Giovanni van Bronckhorst will make two changes for the Europa League game against Braga on Thursday.
