Rangers squad set for ‘substantial rebuild’ this summer – Chris Jack

Rangers are set to undergo a ‘fairly substantial rebuild’ this summer with a number of players entering the final 12 months of their contract, according to Chris Jack.

The Light blues have got five players currently with contracts set to expire at the end of this season, with a further five players deals up at the end of next season.

This has led to speculation that the club will be forced to sell top stars like Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo on the cheap this summer to ensure they don’t lose them for anything, something journalist Jack told GiveMeSport that they can’t allow to happen.

“It’s not something that they can allow to happen,” he said.

“So, come this summer, I think there will be a fairly substantial rebuild of that Rangers squad. And that highlights why the Premiership title is so important.”

Connor Goldson, Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield are all out of contract this summer, while the club have an option to extend Leon Balogun’s deal for an extra year.

Morelos, Kent, Aribo, Filip Helander and Ryan Jack all have contracts that are due to expire in June 2023.

Rebuild

There’s nothing wrong with a big rebuild this summer, because it’s something the squad arguably needs.

But key players are in the prime of their careers and Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst should be doing everything they can to tie them down to long-term deals.

Obviously it’s hard for the club to be able to compete with the finances of Premier League sides or European giants, so if a deal can’t be done they must ensure they sell for top dollar to be able to replace them.

The likes of Kent, Aribo and Morelos would all demand transfer fees of at least eight figures and that would allow the club to replace adequately, but whether they’d be as good is impossible to know.

It’s imperative that the squad isn’t weakened this summer when they’re in a position to really compete, but it seems as though plenty of business will get done.
