Greg Stewart tells Rangers fans to be patient with Giovanni van Bronckhorst after Old Firm loss

Ex-Rangers striker Greg Stewart has told fans to be patient with Giovanni van Bronckhorst after defeat to Celtic may have ended their title hopes.

Rangers now sit six points behind Celtic in the title race after a 2-1 loss at Ibrox on Sunday, all but ending their hopes of successive titles in Scotland.

However, with a Europa League quarter-final clash to come on Thursday plus a Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic in two weeks, Stewart told The Sun that the manager ‘needs time’ and could still come out with two trophies this season.

“When you play for Rangers there is always pressure on you,” he said. “Fans are hurting as the team were ahead and now they are behind with six games to go.

“Everyone knows if you don’t get results the fans are going to start talking about changing things. But I think it is too soon to talk about changing the manager. He needs time.

“The league isn’t over and they are still in with a chance of winning the Scottish Cup and Europa League. So we’ll just have to see what happens.”

Patience

Patience is a virtue, and anyone calling for Van Bronckhorst’s head after the defeat to Celtic is absolutely crazy.

His performance as manager has been excellent thus far, and while there have been some moments to question it’s impossible to say he’s the sole reason for the mid-season collapse in the title race.

It should be remembered this isn’t his squad either, with one mid-season transfer window all he’s had to make any changes but this side is still very good.

Should they beat Braga, as many expect them to, and get to the semi-final then anything could happen and if he is able to mastermind a victory over Celtic in two weeks then many of these bad thoughts will be forgotten.

He has earned himself a summer window and next season to go again, so fans should get behind him and back him as this is the strongest Rangers have been in a long time.
