Chris Sutton on BBC: Rangers finishing second in Glasgow is finishing last

Chris Sutton has insisted that Rangers finishing second in Glasgow is basically them finishing last.

The Bears crashed to defeat against Celtic on Sunday and fell six points behind their rivals in the Scottish Premiership.

Sutton did praise Giovanni van Bronckhorst for the job he has done but shared more credit for his European exploits rather than domestically.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club [04 April], Sutton shared his verdict on the management changes.

“Finishing second in Glasgow is finishing last,” he said.

“Rangers are now in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and getting great credit for that. Rangers knocked out Borussia Dortmund and there was a lot of excitement about that.

“I think Van Bronckhorst has gone in and done a pretty good job, he’s lost to Celtic twice, but he’s lost to a good Celtic side.”

Last?

It has been quite doom and gloom at Ibrox in the past couple of days, and it is hard to get rid of that feeling at this moment.

Even with the Europa League quarter-finals coming up against Braga, the defeat against Celtic is still in the back of everyone’s mind.

There is still time to go and this isn’t over yet, and that is the message we need to push through to this squad right now.

Van Bronckhorst has to motivate this squad, and if he can’t do that right now, something is wrong within the dressing room.

What we would do to wipe that smug smile off Sutton’s face, but we have no worry that it will come eventually, one way or another on the pitch.
