Alfredo Morelos may have played final game for Rangers amid major Tuesday announcement

Alfredo Morelos may have played his final game for Rangers already after it was confirmed that the striker will miss the rest of the season.

On Tuesday afternoon [5 April], the Gers confirmed on their official website that Morelos, 25, has undergone surgery on a thigh injury and won’t be back until pre-season training starts.

While Rangers fail to mention it properly in their statement, in other words, Morelos won’t play again this season.

It’s a hammer blow for the Light Blues, who’ve already felt the impact of missing the Colombia international as he sat out of Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Celtic at Ibrox.

It means that Giovanni van Bronchkhorst is going to be without his most reliable goalscorer and, without doubt, one of the best players in his squad for a vital Europa League quarter-final showdown with Braga before a Scottish Cup semi-final versus Celtic.

With Morelos out, our chances of winning silverware this season have taken a massive blow.

And worst of all, we might not even see El Bufalo play in our famous blue kit ever again.

Morelos’ contract expires in just over a year’s time, meaning that if we do not sell the Colombian in the coming summer transfer window, we run the risk of losing him for free in 2023.

Morelos has been strongly linked with a move away from Ibrox throughout almost his entire spell in Scotland.

We’ve seen talk of Lille and Porto in the last couple of years while 90min reported in January that Newcastle United were keen on the £20,000-a-week striker [Football Insider].

Whatever happens, Morelos is a modern-day hero at Ibrox and is one of the big reasons as to why we won the title last term and have done so well in Europe in recent seasons.

In other Rangers news, Sir Alex Ferguson wants Manchester United to sign this Ibrox ace.
