Mark Hateley suggests Rangers need to sign three to four quality players
Mark Hateley wants Rangers to bring in three to four “quality” players in the summer transfer window.
The Gers lost 2-1 against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox on Sunday (03 April), and they now trail the leaders by six points. The title race is as good as over.
Hateley told Sky Sports that lack of investment in the summer when Rangers were at their top is the main reason why the team failed this term.
“It’s good to bring in fresh blood of quality who is going to challenge for the first-team squad,” said Hateley to Sky Sports.
“I think the new manager has come in, he has had one window, at this level under these demands, I’d say probably three or four (players) to put his mark on the football club.”
Big summer
It’s going to be a massive summer for Rangers.
In the January window, the Gers had money to spend after Nathan Patterson was sold on a club-record fee to Everton.
Players like James Sands, Amad Diallo and Aaron Ramsey were brought in on loan to add depth and quality to the side.
Sands has been decent at best, but Diallo has proved to be a massive flop. Ramsey has struggled with injuries, and as such his signing hasn’t made any big difference.

To be fair, it’s hard to judge Van Bronckhorst based on one transfer window, as he basically worked with the players from the Gerrard era.
This summer, a sea-change approach is needed, and Hateley is right that as many as three to four quality players are required to improve the first team.
Connor Goldson is set to leave the club on free, while Alfredo Morelos could also leave in the summer. The Gers need quality replacements to fill those gaps and forge a strong team.
In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart has shared his reaction to a “huge” development at Ibrox to come in April.
