Keith Jackson blames Rangers Director of football Ross Wilson over transfer failure

Keith Jackson has blamed Rangers Director of football Ross Wilson for the transfer debacle after the Gers lost their Old Firm clash 2-1 against Celtic on Sunday at Ibrox.

The Daily Record journalist has suggested that the failure to recruit properly in the summer is the major reason why the Bears are almost out of the title race.

In the January window, Wilson managed to secure deals for Aaron Ramsey and Amad Diallo, but both have proved to be uninspiring signings so far.

“Wilson was lauded for landing Aaron Ramsey on the last day of the January sales and the Welshman got his team off to a flyer yesterday when he found the back of Joe Hart’s net after only a couple of minutes,” wrote Jackson for The Daily Record.

“But the truth is Ramsey’s overall contribution in the last two months has been close to negligible.

“That is hardly a surprise given the 31-year-old arrived at Ibrox with ring rust in both legs after being left rotting on a bench in Turin for so long.

“The same goes for Manchester United’s Amad Diallo, who was also recruited on a six-month deal but who remains so far out in the cold he appears to be doing little more than passing time until he’s sent back to the fridge at Old Trafford.

“Wilson who should be carrying the can for this miscalculation as well as the abject failure to strengthen a team when it had quite evidently reached its peak.”

Massive summer

Jackson is absolutely spot on here.

Ramsey was brought in to provide an extra bit of quality but he has hardly featured since joining the club, struggling with fitness for a long spell.

Although he scored for Rangers against Celtic, his signing hasn’t made any big difference to the side.

Diallo scored on his debut for the Bears and it looked like an inspired piece of business, but he has turned out to be a massive flop.

Jackson has pointed out that another January signing James Sands hasn’t been impressive, while the likes of Jack Simpson, Scott Wright, Fashion Sakala, Cedric Itten, Mateusz Zukowski and Nnamdi Ofoborh have barely threatened to get into the starting line-up.

On the other hand, Connor Goldson is set to leave the club on free, while Alfredo Morelos could also leave in the summer after switching his agent.

The summer window is vital for Rangers, and we could see the Dutchman making a wholesome change to the squad.
