Tam McManus: League done for Rangers after defeat v Celtic

Tam McManus says the Scottish Premiership title race is over after Rangers suffered a 2-1 defeat against Celtic today (03 April) at Ibrox.

Despite taking an early lead through Aaron Ramsey, the Gers lost their way as goals from Tom Rogic and Cameron Carter-Vickers earned them a crucial victory.

While mathematically the Gers are still in the race, their task of catching Celtic has become really difficult.

After the final whistle, BBC pundit McManus wrote on Twitter: “Celtic fully deserved that. Great defensive performance and a threat at other end. Rangers bar first 20 mins poor for me. League done.”

Bitter truth

It’s really hard to swallow as Rangers were leading by six points at one stage in the season. How quickly the situation has reversed within a space of five months!

Ange Postecoglou’s side are now six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, and in reality, it’s almost impossible to catch them now, given the nature of the league.

On top of that, the Bhoys have a massive goal difference advantage. This game opened up the opportunity to level the tie and take the title race to the wire, but Rangers are themselves to blame for their gradual downfall.

As it stands, unless there’s a dramatic collapse, the Gers won’t be celebrating another league title this season.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be disappointed with the fact that they have dropped six points in their last five months.

The Dutchman has only lost two domestic games since replacing Steven Gerrard and both have come in the Old Firm clashes.

In other Rangers news, Simon Jordan slammed a talkSPORT guest for what he said about the cancelled Old Firm clash in Australia.
