Charlie Adam delivers verdict on penalty appeal in Rangers 2-1 v Celtic

Charlie Adam has said that Rangers should have been awarded a penalty in the second half against Celtic.

The Gers suffered a massive blow today (03 April) as they lost further ground in the Scottish Premiership title race after losing 2-1 against the Bhoys.

Aaron Ramsey gave an early lead for the home side, but the visitors fought back to secure all three points.

In the 60th minute, when the score was 2-1, the Gers saw a penalty appeal being turned down.

Ryan Jack was played in by Ryan Kent and the Rangers midfielder’s cross had hit the arm of Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The defender was pretty close and his arm wasn’t up, and Adam has suggested that referee Willie Collum should’ve pointed to the spot.

Adam said as quoted by the BBC Website: “Rangers got away with one first half but that’s a penalty kick.”

Title race over?

Ange Postecoglou’s side are now six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

They have a 16-goal advantage over their nearest rivals, with only six games remaining.

Unless there’s a dramatic collapse, Rangers will find it really hard to close the gap from here on.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be disappointed with the fact that the Gers have been very poor in the league for the past four-five months, and it’s really difficult for them to catch Celtic.

What has been really frustrating is that Van Bronckhorst has only lost two domestic games since replacing Steven Gerrard and they’ve both been in the Old Firm derbies.

The Gers have plenty to look forward to as they have a crucial Europa League game coming up, while they’ll be keen to win a domestic cup as well.

However, it’s safe to say, the league is as good as over.
