Steven Gerrard shares thoughts on ’50-50 game’ between Rangers and Celtic
Steven Gerrard believes Sunday’s Old Firm derby is a ‘real 50-50 game’, but admits he is hoping for a Rangers win at Ibrox.
Gerrard was manager of the Ibrox club earlier this season, before leaving for Aston Villa in November with the club top of the league.
They now sit three points behind Celtic with a huge clash against their fierce rivals on Sunday, and Gerrard told Sky Sports that he will be watching the game at home and thinks the ‘sensational’ atmosphere at Ibrox will make it a fantastic game.

“I’ll watch the game on Sunday hopefully in a good mood from our result, obviously Villa is my priority now,” he said.
“But it’s a mouthwatering game, obviously Celtic got the better recently, but I think it’s a real 50-50 game.
“Two really good teams, [Rangers] obviously in a really good place having qualified and knocked Dortmund and Red Star out, and Celtic have been consistent for some time and are coached extremely well.
“I think you know quite clear who I want to win, that goes without saying, but it’ll be very different sitting at home hopefully in a good place to enjoy the game because when you’re in the mix it’s obviously a fantastic game to be involved in.
“The atmosphere is sensational, especially at Ibrox, and I’m hoping for the Rangers win.”

Once a blue…
There’s that famous old saying, and while Gerrard will always be associated with the red of Liverpool it’s the blue of Rangers that he’ll be remembered for in Glasgow.
Gerrard is a bit of a cult hero now after winning the title by a huge 25 points to stop Celtic from winning ten-in-a-row, and while his exit left a sour taste the club haven’t done badly since.
The game against Celtic is absolutely huge and arguably the biggest and most important of their season, maybe in the last decade.
Gerrard knows the importance of the game and he showed where his heart lies by calling for the Bears to pick up all three points in Sunday’s massive showdown.
He knows the 52,000 home fans can play a huge part with the noise and backing they give the team, so fingers crossed we can all be smiling together come 2pm Sunday afternoon.
