Kris Boyd doesn’t want Aaron Ramsey to start for Rangers vs Celtic

Kris Boyd says he doesn’t want Aaron Ramsey to start for Rangers against Celtic as there is ‘nothing to suggest’ he can affect the game.

Ramsey made his first Scottish Premiership start against Dundee before the international break and scored in an impressive performance.

But Boyd, who was writing in his Daily Record column, believes the Welsh international hasn’t shown that he is ‘at a level’ where he can affect such a ‘vital’ game right now.

“Aaron Ramsey will also come into van Bronckhorst’s thoughts but I expect he’ll stick with the midfielders he’s used in Europe,” he said.

“The Wales man scored against Dundee a fortnight ago but he still only has three starts for Rangers.

“So far, there’s nothing to suggest to me Ramsey is currently at a level where he can affect a vital match against Celtic.”

Boyd is a hero and knows that this type of game is usually decided by the best players on the pitch, regardless of which shirt they’re wearing.

Ramsey has the potential to be that player and in the last few weeks for Rangers and Wales he has shown that he is finally getting back to the level we all know he can be at, and why the club signed him to begin with.

Granted it’s taken him a while to get up to speed, but that’s to be expected when you’ve been without regular football for the best part of two years.

Without Alfredo Morelos available, Ramsey would provide an extra option for goals from midfield while also providing a calmness and some big game experience in the middle of the park.

It would be a big call for Van Bronckhorst to leave out one of his regulars in midfield but it may be needed with such big stakes up for grabs at Ibrox.
