Keith Jackson: Australia chiefs kick off urgent talks, Rangers could be hit by £5m bill

Rangers could be hit by a £5million bill after the huge news they had dropped out of the Sydney Cup at the end of the year.

That’s according to Keith Jackson of the Daily Record, who reports that urgent legal talks instantly kicked off in Australia after that happened.

The Bears were said to have dropped out after TEG Live supposedly failed to live up to promises regarding the branding of the Old Firm.

Jackson has shared that “Sources down under” have refuted those claims massively and are now looking into potential punishments.

It is reported that they believe that James Bisgrove gave permission to the initial announcement where the Old Firm slogan was not used.

In another disagreement, organisers share that talks began over the friendly before the appointment of Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.

Rangers

Here we go.

Rangers will have been combing through the contracts extensively in recent weeks, with the response of outrage more than understandable.

The Ibrox board surely wouldn’t have made this decision if there was a big risk of paying this kind of money to the organisers in Australia.

Finding that loophole in the contract was vital, and there will be confidence that they won’t have to pay up this cash.

Bisgrove certainly has a lot of answering to do, though, with his words still resonating quite clearly about how much money this will earn the club.

This is much bigger than money, and if we do have to cough up £5million down the line somehow, it could land on his shoulders to explain.

Fingers crossed this won’t come to fruition, but as we said, there has to be a feeling we won’t after so confidently dropping out.
