Kevin Thomson shares how Rangers can beat Celtic

Rangers will face Celtic in the Scottish Premiership clash on Sunday (03 April) where a victory will see them go level on points with their rivals.

The Gers will be playing at Ibrox and Thomson is aware of the “unbelievable” energy the crowd can generate.

He has suggested that Rangers must start the game strongly so as to keep the energy level flowing, something Celtic had done in their previous fixture.

“The crowd is going to be massive. The energy that can be produced at Ibrox is unbelievable. The players will need that,” said Thomson, as quoted by the Scottish Daily Mail (01 April, printed edition – page 90).

“They are going to need to give the fans something to get excited about and that will be the key, the way they start. If they can start really sharp, be on the front foot, early tackles, early chances and impose themselves, it could be a defining factor in the game.”

Spot on

The Bears are only three points behind Celtic and a defeat here will put an end to their title hopes completely.

Rangers have been outstanding in European games this season, and they can take the confidence gained from those games into the Old Firm derby.

It is important to make a strong positive start, and get the crowd excited. An early goal would be fantastic.

Kemar Roofe will be one of plenty to depart Ibrox this summer

In a game of this magnitude, more than tactics and positional shape, what matters most is how the players handle the pressure.

Rangers must make sure they don’t make silly challenges and get themselves sent off, which would be a huge blow.

Also, the players could be rusty after returning from international games, but the gravity of the fixture is bound to get the best out of the players.

The Gers could be without Alfredo Morelos for this game, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst may have to rely on Kemar Roofe to deliver.
