Gregg Wylde gushes over Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor

Gregg Wylde has showered heaps of praise on Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor, saying he is “one of the best” in business.

The veteran goalkeeper has come under criticism this season after making some errors, but he has come back strongly in big games for the Gers.

Ahead of the massive Old Firm clash with Celtic on Sunday (03 April), McGregor will be expected to play a key role once again.

“He has been exceptional for Rangers over a number of years and at the age of 40 to still be playing at that level is incredible,” said Wylde as quoted by Herald Scotland.

“I just can’t believe how well he has done, especially in the big games like Celtic or Red Star. He saved the penalty at Ibrox and made so many over the tie.

“At 40, to still have that flexibility and be at that level is incredible. Not many keepers at his age are at that level.

“Listen, Greegsy has been brilliant for Rangers. He has come in for some criticism at times when he has made mistakes but he is a big character for Rangers and he just does what he does. He is one of the best.”

Massive game

This is a must-win game for the Gers. They are three points behind Celtic in the league, and if they drop further points at Ibrox, it will become very difficult to catch them with only six games left in the season.

On the other hand, a victory on Sunday, will see them go level on points with Celtic, and they can still take control of the title race.

The job gets tougher even before the first whistle as the Gers are likely to miss important players like Alfredo Morelos and Aaron Ramsey.

The last time when the two sides met, Rangers lost 3-0 at Celtic Park. However, this is a different pressure situation, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst must get his tactics spot on.

McGregor was outstanding in the Europa League clash against Red Star Belgrade. While there are suggestions that he should retire, the veteran goalkeeper is still going strong.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart has shared his reaction to a “huge” development at Ibrox in the past month.
