Rangers right place for Connor Goldson – Zurab Khizanishvili

Former Rangers defender Zurab Khizanishvili is a big fan of current Gers rock Connor Goldson and wants him to stay at Ibrox.

The 29-year-old is the best defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst has at his disposal and is a guaranteed starter every week if he is fit to do so.

Khizanishvili thinks he can become a “god” in the eyes of Rangers fans if he stays and wins more trophies with the Light Blues.

“I like him very much. He’s got a strong mentality, he’s a proper defender, just what I like to see at the club,” Khizanishvili said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I understand if a player who has proved himself as the No.1 defender for Rangers may be interested in going to find out about a different league.

“I wish him good luck if that is the case but I wish him to stay. He’s played in England before but not so much so it’s no surprise if he’s thinking of trying again.

“The Premier League would be a good step for him. But he’s good for us. And Rangers are good for him.

“He’s in Glasgow, you are a God there if you win the league as he found out last season.”

Consistent

Goldson isn’t the flashiest of defenders and his YouTube highlights reel might not be as incredible as some in the Rangers squad.

But what he does possess and van Bronckhorst knows he can trust is his consistency to be at his best every time he plays.

You will struggle to find too many games in which Goldson has been below a seven out of ten in his overall performance whether Rangers are dominating the game or under the cosh.

The 29-year-old has made himself undroppable from the Light Blues starting 11 by virtue of not putting a foot majorly wrong at any stage during his time in Glasgow.

As a defender, that is all you can really do without the chance to be fancy in the attacking third.

But we’d have it no other way and we have to cross our fingers that he will commit to the club for the long term soon.

In other Rangers news, there has been a huge injury boost for van Bronckhorst ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm derby.
