BBC pundit slams Rangers defender Calvin Bassey after what he did on international duty
Daniel Amokachi has slammed Rangers defender Calvin Bassey for his lack of fitness on international duty with Nigeria.
The Super Eagles’ hopes of qualifying for Qatar 2022 ended when they suffered a shock defeat to Ghana on away goals.
Along with Bassey, Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun were also part of the squad.

However, Amokachi, a BBC pundit, singled out Bassey for criticism, stating (via the Scottish Sun), “Calvin Bassey was exhausted after the first half and you could see that he always had his hand on his waist each time.
“I don’t know why he stayed on for that long.
“The Super Eagles didn’t play at all. The players did not show how important it was for them to play at the World Cup. They were playing as if they didn’t know that there was an away goal rule.
“The urgency was zero from our players.”
Extended break
While Bassey would want to be on the plane to Qatar at the end of the year, he will now be watching the World Cup from afar.
This gives him and his Nigerian teammates a chance to get an extended break.

Most players are going to come back from the tournament exhausted and they will need some games to return to their best.
In a way this could benefit the Gers trio next season and they must not be disheartened by it.
Their performance was not as bad as the former Nigeria international is making it out to be and they did deserve more from it.
In other Rangers news, the club may sign a Dutch international to replace Allan McGregor and the keeper’s contract also expires in the summer.
