Neil McCann gives Rangers edge over Celtic in Old Firm prediction

Neil McCann has branded the Scottish Premiership title race “too close to call” but believes there are two big factors that could give Rangers the upper hand on Sunday [April 3].

As much as it has hindered the Light Blues league campaign, the BBC pundit believes their European success this season will give them the confidence over Celtic.

The Scot also claimed playing at Ibrox will tilt the tie in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side a favour as they look to bounce back from their 3-0 Celtic Park humiliation.

“It is really hard to call,” he told Sky Sports via Glasgow Evening Times. “I think Celtic are in real form, really good form.

“I think Ange Postecoglou has got the team really firing, they look dangerous every time they get the ball, they can attack well.

“I think being at Ibrox, Rangers would have to fancy themselves and make themselves favourites for that.

“Under Giovanni, they have been excellent. Even when they don’t play well, they have been getting results.

“The European stage has been brilliant for them and I think that has built a real bit of confidence that when they are on it when they play, they are a match for anyone. But this title is too close to call.”

Crunch time

This is the biggest game of the season so far and could easily make or break for Rangers.

This season’s Europa League escapade has filled everyone with the belief that the Bears can go on and win the whole competition and rightly so.

They have beaten two giants in Borussia Dortmund and Red Star Belgrade but if anyone understands the unpredictability of cup football it is the Ibrox side and they will be realistic enough to know they could easily go out in the next round.

As much as nobody wants that to happen, it’s the truth and it puts so much more pressure on the league as the Gers look to overthrow their Glaswegian rivals at the top of the table.

They have to win to keep the fight alive otherwise this brilliant season could turn into a terrible one by the end of next week if they end up on the losing side against Braga as well. A huge season-defining couple of weeks await.
