Van Bronckhorst sweating on fitness of Rangers duo ahead of Celtic clash

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is sweating on the fitness of Rangers duo – Alfredo Morelos and Fashion Sakala ahead of their crucial Old Firm derby clash on Sunday.

Morelos is nursing a muscle injury and he has already undergone tests. The 25-year-old forward picked up the injury during the international break, and he is on his way back to Scotland.

Sakala was tested positive for Covid 19 whilst on international duty with Zambia.

According to Scottish Daily Mail (printed edition, 28 March – page 71), Sakala is currently self-isolating and the Gers are waiting to see whether he can play any part on Sunday.

The report claims that Van Bronckhorst is monitoring his progress, but it’s a “wait and see” situation at the moment.

Huge Blow

This is a must-win game for the Gers. This is their best chance of levelling the tie and taking the title race to the end, as they trail Celtic by three points.

The Bears have been impressive in big games so far, especially in Europe, but this is probably Van Bronckhorst’s biggest test of the season so far.

In the previous Old Firm clash, Celtic won 3-0, but Rangers have a golden opportunity here at Ibrox to take control of the fate of the title race in their own hands.

Losing two important players would be a huge blow, especially if Morelos fails to take any part in the game. Usually, thigh injuries take time to heal, and there is no assurance that the Colombian would be able to feature against the Hoops.

While Morelos has been in excellent form once again, his best performances have come in Europe this season. Kemar Roofe will have to play a big role if Morelos fails to make the cut in the starting line-up.
