Rangers board in discussions with Scott Arfield agent for new deal – report

Rangers are in discussions with Scott Arfield’s agent about a new deal for the midfielder, according to a report by Daily Record.

Arfield has been a key member of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad since he took over the club in November, making 35 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

But his current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and at 33-years-old there are question marks about whether he can continue his level going into next season.

According to a report by Daily Record, the player’s agent is in talks with the board over a new deal but nothing has been agreed or rubber stamped yet.

If nothing can be agreed by the end of the season, Arfield will be free to leave Ibrox to go elsewhere and interest will surely be high considering his performances this season.

Get it done

Arfield has shown that he can be an excellent option for Rangers in important games this season and that’s reason enough to get him a new deal.

Whether it be on the right or in the number ten position, Arfield’s energy and quality on the ball has been key to the team being able to put together runs for three different trophies.

He has earned the trust of the manager which means he is capable of being thrown in to games and rotated without the side being affected too much.

His performances in the Europa League have been a major help to the team progressing to the quarter-finals so far, while he’s also a major part of why they are looking to go back-to-back in the Scottish Premiership too.

A new deal is well deserved for the Canadian and he wouldn’t be expensive. With so many players’ futures up in the air ahead of the new season, this should be an easy deal to do and one that would have little controversy.
