Iain Dowie wowed on Sky Sports after Rangers ace Steven Davis scores for Northern Ireland v Luxembourg

Iain Dowie was left wowed by Rangers veteran Steven Davis as he scored for Northern Ireland in their win over Luxembourg on Friday evening.

The Sky Sports pundit was thrilled as the Bears midfielder popped up with the second in the 3-1 after coming off the bench.

In what has no doubt been a frustrating season at Ibrox, there had been rumours that he would retire from the international game, with those no put to bed.

Davis made 370 appearances across two five-season spells at Rangers.

Speaking live on Sky Sports coverage of the clash last night [25 March], Dowie was clearly thrilled with what he saw.

“It pops out, and there is that man, back of his heel, past the goalkeeper,” he said.

“It’s great for him, he’s still such an important member of the squad.”

Forgotten man.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have been delighted to see Davis get some minutes for his country last night.

They have been extremely hard to come by for the midfielder at Ibrox, with very limited chances to shine no matter what competition.

It has led to Davis very much becoming the forgotten man, but his impact on club and country can never be understated.

With huge games in the Europa League with Braga coming up, as well as Celtic in all domestic competitions in April, every man in this squad will be needed.

James Sands has tended to be the man called upon from the bench, but Davis will certainly have a role to play, and this just proves that.

The veteran may be in his final couple of months at Ibrox, so let’s hope that he can go out with a bang.
