Chris Brunt shocked live on Sky by what Rangers ace Steven Davis did for Northern Ireland v Luxembourg

Chris Brunt was left shocked by Rangers ace Steven Davis popping up to score for Northern Ireland against Luxembourg on Friday [25 March].

With the score level at 1-1, Ian Baraclough turned to his bench and the veteran to come on and make that difference.

Davis did that exactly, poking home after bursting into the six-yard box, something Brunt couldn’t believe after the game.

Davis made 370 appearances across two five-season spells at Rangers.

Speaking live on Sky Sports coverage last night [25 March, 21:18], Brunt was shocked by his former teammate.

“He has read it so much better than the centre-half,” he said. “I think the spin on the ball has sort of killed the centre-half.

“That’s Steven down to a tee, right place, right time – he reads the game so well. I’m delighted for him.

“He’s still getting into the six-yard box, that is the most surprising thing for me, that he is actually in that six-yard box.”

Brilliant.

It was great to see Davis getting onto the pitch and doing what he does best – making a huge difference to the game.

The veteran still has it, and him getting that goal was reward for his patience after what will no doubt have been a disappointing season so far.

Davis has had little game time at Ibrox, but his influence in the dressing room and at Auchenhowie will no doubt still be huge.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will also be chuffed knowing that this is evidence that he still has Davis to call upon in games between now and the end of the season.

You never know when you may need that experience in the middle of the park, and with big Celtic games coming up, he could be perfect.
