Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack admits injury spell was ‘toughest’ phase of his career

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack admits his injury nightmare was the “toughest” phase of his career.

The Gers midfielder faced a gruelling rehab as he missed a huge chunk of last season, and also failed to represent Scotland at Euro 2020 as a result.

He needed surgery to cure a calf issue. Jack also picked up a minor injury in February this year, after making a comeback.

“There’s no doubt it was probably the toughest time I’ve had in my career. It was bad news after bad news,” said Jack, as quoted by The Glasgow Times.

“Obviously, helping playing a part in getting to the Euros and then having to watch at the side. Don’t get me wrong, I was the games and the boys did very well but it was a tough time.

“But I’ve always said if you get through those times, if you focus on goals ahead. One of those goals, for me, was to get back in this squad and hopefully play a part.”

Fit and firing

The 30-year-old is now completely fit and he looking to play a major role for the Scotland national team once again.

Since returning from injury, Jack has been in good form for the Gers, and he is performing at a top level once again.

He played a vital role for Steve Clarke’s side during the qualification campaign last year, but unfortunately couldn’t feature in the big tournament.

The Rangers midfielder made his long-awaited return to the Scotland set up this week when he replaced Callum McGregor in the 77th minute against Poland.

Scotland took the lead through Kieran Tierney in the 68th minute, but they were denied a deserved seventh consecutive win after a controversial 94th-minute penalty at Hampden Park on Thursday (24 March).

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will also be pleased to see Jack playing again for his country, as it will further boost his confidence.

Jack is expected to play a big role for Rangers this season, as they aim to secure the SPFL title for the second time in a row.
