Rangers goalkeeper Lewis Budinauckas goes on emergency loan to Raith Rovers
Rangers youth goalkeeper Lewis Budinauckas has made a seven day emergency loan move to Scottish Championship side Raith Rovers.
The Rovers’ stopper Jamie MacDonald suffered an injury last weekend against Inverness Caledonian Thistle so the club required quick backup at the position, according to a statement on their website.
It went on to say: “Lewis is aged 19 and joined Rangers in July 2020 where he has been playing for Rangers ‘B’ team, including matches in the UEFA Youth League (versus the likes of Sevilla u19 & Athletic Madrid u19) and in the SPFL Challenge Cup when the Colt teams were introduced to the competition.
“Lewis has also represented Scotland U21 v Turkey last September.
“We would like to extend our Thanks to everyone at Rangers FC for their help in making this loan possible.
“Welcome Aboard Lewis!”
Good experience
It’s not often that Scottish football thanks the Light Blues so it’s nice to see something positive.
The youngster may not make an appearance during his short stay at Stark’s Park but it is all part of his development.
It is not the first time the 19-year-old has made a temporary move away, having spent time with the Civil Service Strollers last season (Rangers News).

The Scottish Sun says he will provide “valuable back up” for Raith manager John McGlynn over the next week.
Gers will be looking for help in the first team goal before long with Allan McGregor now 40, although he may be back next season.
It remains to be seen whether Budinauckas is a candidate to break into the first team but has been chosen to fill a gap with this move.
His career form so far suggests perhaps not as Transfermarkt has his stats as one clean sheet from 10 appearances and 26 goals conceded in all competitions.
In other Rangers news, one first team player received heavy praise from a BBC pundit for his display during the international break.
