Barry Ferguson names Celtic man Rangers will want to face in Old Firm

Barry Ferguson has named one Celtic player that the Rangers defenders will want to face up against in the upcoming Old Firm derby.

The former Gers man claimed the Light Blues would fancy their chances against Giorgos Giakoumakis more than any other Hoops attacker.

The Glaswegian rivals go head-to-head on April 3 at Ibrox in a crunch tie that will be decisive in determining the Scottish Premiership champions by the end of the season.

However, Ferguson did speak rather highly of the Greek international’s goalscoring record ahead of the clash.

He told Go Radio via Scottish Daily Express: “He’s a danger inside the box but outside the box he’s not the most pleasant on the eye. He’s not got the link up.

“I think if you ask Goldson and Balogun who they want to come up against, it’d be Giakoumakis.

“You can’t argue with his goal-scoring record. He’s in the right area at the right time, he has a knack of scoring goals and you can’t take away his return.”

Title decider

This is the game that everyone has been waiting for. The Glasgow Rangers have a massive point to prove after the 3-0 demolition suffered at Celtic Park last time out.

The Light Blues will not care who lines up against them, they will have their eyes firmly set on moving them aside and nothing else.

Giakoumakis is far from an easy touch, he has scored 11 goals in 2022 and is obviously very clinical in front of goal. With that being said, he is one of the Hoops’ more favourable options in attack from a Rangers perspective.

If they have any aspirations for winning the league, they simply must take all three points at Ibrox after the international break.

The Bears find themselves three points behind their bitter rivals and if Celtic extend that lead, the title race would be all but sealed.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has to get the team selection spot on with that being the decisive factor in the 3-0 defeat.
