Joe Ledley thinks Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey goes ‘under the radar’ for Wales

Joe Ledley believes Aaron Ramsey being allowed to leave Juventus was ‘bizarre’ and says the Rangers ace is still a ‘massive’ part of the Wales squad.

Ramsey moved to Ibrox on loan for the rest of the season in January and got his first goal for the club at the weekend as they earned a comeback win over Dundee in the title race.

Now as he prepares for a huge World Cup qualifier playoff for Wales, Ramsey has been described as someone with ‘frightening’ levels of fitness despite his injury problems and Ledley told Sky Sports he’s still ‘massive’ for the national team.

“It’s been a waste” he said of their lack of game time at top European clubs.

“As Welsh fans we respect those two guys much more than Real Madrid and Juventus have. We know their capabilities. I’m certain Gareth Bale is still capable of getting into the Real Madrid first team and I don’t know what has gone on with Aaron Ramsey at Juventus.

“When you are losing 3-0 in the Champions League and generally having a terrible season, it’s bizarre to let a player of his calibre go.

“We have no worries with Aaron in terms of his fitness.

“And he’s got more minutes under his belt now than he did for the last camp and scoring last weekend will have been great for his confidence.

“His fitness levels are frightening. I’ve worked with him for many years. He doesn’t stop running. He helps out all over the pitch, tracking back. On the flip side he can also make that third man run and make the difference in the opposition box which then gets him his goals. He goes under the radar. He’s still a massive player in this squad.”

Disappointing

When Ramsey’s move to Rangers was confirmed at the end of the transfer window, fans and pundits alike were absolutely ecstatic about the potential of what he could bring.

But in truth he has been pretty disappointing so far, struggling to break into Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s starting lineup and dealing with knocks throughout his time.

But against Dundee at the weekend we finally saw glimpses of what he’s capable of as he controlled the game from a central position and got himself on the scoresheet.

It’s just another day at the office for the 31-year-old, but for Rangers that type of quality in the heart of the pitch could easily be the difference between winning the title again or falling to Celtic.

But now fans will have their eyes peeled on his performances for Wales, where he almost always shines and is at his best, and hoping he can bring those levels back with him to Ibrox for a crazy April that includes two Old Firm derbies and a European quarter-final.
