Hugh MacDonald delivers verdict on Rangers-Club 1872 situation

Hugh MacDonald has suggested that ‘civil war’ has become deeply uncivil after Rangers released a scathing statement yesterday (22 March) in reply to allegations from Club 1872.

The Gers have blasted Club 1872 with a strong official statement after the fan group launched a severe attack on the Ibrox board.

The supporters’ group launched a strong public attack at three Rangers senior figures – managing director Stewart Robertson, commercial director James Bisgrove and communications chief David Graham.

“The civil war has become deeply uncivil. The civil war has always locked in the background since Dave King stepped away from the club,” said MacDonald on PLZ Soccer.

“Club 1872 are not happy with certain statements they believe are misleading, not happy with the tournament in Sydney, not happy with bitcoin etc, etc, yep that’s all there. This is the ‘King Faction’ and incumbents at Rangers just fighting away over that.”

The decision to participate in the tournament in Sydney where Rangers would play a friendly against Celtic in Australia has not gone down well among the fans.

The Gers even considered pulling away from the event after facing backlash from the supporters.

Club 1872 urged the club to withdraw their plans and they claim their plea had been rejected by the managing director.

The supporters’ group have questioned the club’s judgement, competence and honesty.

Rangers find that the supporter groups are causing damage to the club and have made clear in a statement that they have sparked a “propaganda war”.

During the 2-1 win against Dundee, the Gers fans vented their anger by throwing toilet paper and tennis balls on the pitch.

The disruption affected the flow of the game, but the Gers somehow managed to pick up a win.

This could be a historic campaign for Rangers if they can win the SPFL title as also can go all the way to the final of the Europa League, but behind-the-scene disruptions could ruin all good works.

In other Rangers news, one player has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now a doubt for the Old Firm clash against Celtic.
