BBC Scotland unlikely heroes for Rangers as brilliant video clip causes Celtic meltdown

Tuesday was a bit crazy, wasn’t it, Rangers fans?

It wasn’t really a day to be proud of the club either, with statements and accusations being flung about by the Gers board and minor shareholders Club 1872.

Rangers claim the fan group is creating “propaganda” against the club after Club 1872 questioned the “judgement, competence and honesty” of the board [Sky Sports].

It’s a civil war of words and one of the numerous mighty distractions that have occurred away from the pitch recently.

All of this derives from the ridiculous decision to take part in an overseas “friendly” against Celtic in the Sydney Super Cup later this year.

Fans are dead against it and fans are the absolute foundation of this football club. However, Rangers are refusing to listen to the complaints, the criticism and the dissent.

Instead, the club is willing to post incendiary statements about fan groups and shareholders.

It’s made the club a laughing stock – but at lead BBC Scotland managed to brighten up our Tuesdays a bit by causing a meltdown among Celtic supporters on Twitter.

Out of nowhere, BBC Sport Scotland’s official Twitter account tweeted on 22 March a video clip summing up Rangers’ incredibly 150-year history.

Of course, if you mention anything to do with Rangers that has a date attached to 2013 and beyond to it, you’re going to provoke a weird reaction from the other side of Glasgow.

BBC Sport’s clip doesn’t mention the club’s 2012 financial plight in any great detail; their video of course was a summary of Rangers’ history and not a documentary about business and finances.

But as expected, the video clip caused outrage among Celtic fans as the BBC acknowledged Rangers’ existence after 2012 and merely pointed to our “financial problems” and demotion to the fourth tier.

It was a fair summary, intent on reviewing the glories of this great football club and we enjoyed watching the clip, which lasts 150 seconds long.

What we enjoy even more is the absolute meltdown that followed from Celtic fans.

Thank you for brightening up our Tuesday a bit, BBC Scotland – the unlikely heroes of the day.

In other Rangers news, the stats prove this player is a cut above for the Gers.
