Barry Ferguson makes big Rangers selection call ahead of Celtic clash

Barry Ferguson has named the midfield three he believes Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst should back ahead of their clash against Celtic.

The Glaswegian rivals go head-to-head on April 3 at Ibrox in what will be a crucial game in deciding who will win the Scottish Premiership.

Ferguson held back no praise for the Light Blues midfielders in his analysis of who should start the Old Firm clash.

Rangers

He said on the Go Radio Football Show as transcribed by footballscotland:

“Lundstram, I’ve been so impressed with, he’s getting better and better and I’m glad. I’m delighted because he came in for criticism for six months.

“He’s two-footed as well, can pass with his right and left. Big, strong, powerful, can play and can get about the pitch.”

Ferguson added: “Jack, I think it was right for the manager to bring him out and give him a wee bit of rest because you’ve got to rely on Ryan Jack.

“That’ll keep him fresh. He’ll probably play for Scotland but I still think it was right for the manager to take him out.”

“Kamara for me, being that one pushed forward. That’s the three I think the manager will go with against Celtic.”

Rangers

Must win

John Lundstram, Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara is about as strong as the Gers midfield gets but it is quite unlikely the boss will go for that trio against Celtic.

Hopefully, he does because in the Bears’ embarrassing 3-0 defeat last time out at Celtic Park, they were completely outrun and overpowered in the middle of the park.

Having Jack back to his best and Lundstram firing on all cylinders will be a massive boost for the Dutchman and hopefully, he backs moves Aribo into the front free to make room for the duo.

This game is going to be very different to the 3-0 drubbing. The Gers now have Alfredo Morelos back in action as well and he is undoubtedly their most important player.

If Rangers want to usurp their bitter rivals at the top of the table, the derby is a must-win. They have to go level with Celtic in terms of points going into the last phase of the season and pile the pressure on.

Then it is all down to who blinks first.

In other Rangers news, Dermot Gallagher calls the Gers’ penalty “very good spot” by Bobby Madden.
