Kris Commons delivers verdict on Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos
Kris Commons has suggested that Rangers do not have anyone who can match the numbers of Celtic forward Giorgos Giakoumakis.
While writing on his column for The Scottish Daily Mail (21 March; page 12), Commons has said that Alfredo Morelos has been in brilliant form for the Gers, but his best performances have come in Europe.
Rangers came from behind yesterday (20 March) to seal a 2-1 victory against Dundee in the Scottish Premiership at Dens Park.

“He has netted 11 goals in 13 games since mid-January. He’s the goal machine who has propelled Celtic to the top of the table – and could fire them to the title,” wrote Commons for The Scottish Daily Mail.
“Rangers don’t have anyone who can match those kind of numbers right now. Alfredo Morelos has been in good form, but most of his best performances have come in Europe.
“Morelos has scored just three league goals since the turn of the year. Giakoumakis will almost certainly lead the line at Ibrox. Right now, he is the most lethal striker in the country.”
The Gers won’t mind
Morelos has been outstanding once again, but Commons is right that his best performances have mainly come in Europe.
He has scored 12 goals in the league and provided seven assists. On top of that, he has scored five goals in European competitions this season.
The Colombian is going through a rough patch at the moment, managing only a goal in his last nine games, but Giovanni van Bronckhorst clearly feels that he is the first-choice striker for the club.

As long as the Gers are picking up wins, individual performances hardly matter. In fact, players like Joe Aribo and Kemar Roofe have chipped in with crucial goals, which has eased the goal-scoring burden on Morelos.
He came close to scoring in the first half yesterday but couldn’t hit the target. The Bears were lacklustre in the first half, but they fought back strongly after the break to seal all three points.
