Chris Sutton flies off hinges as Rangers given penalty in 2-1 win v Dundee

Chris Sutton was left reeling as Rangers were handed a penalty in their 2-1 victory against Dundee on Sunday afternoon.

Not that it mattered after James Tavernier smashed over, but the spot-kick was given after Alfredo Morelos was hauled down at the back-stick.

Sutton admitted that it was a decision from Bobby Madden that made him question the level of officiating in Scotland once again.

Writing on his personal Twitter account while reflecting on the day of action at Dens Park, Sutton was clearly upset.

“It’s the award of penalties like the one today why people question whether most top-flight Scottish referees are up to the required level,” he said.

Here we go, again.

Sutton simply cannot help himself and loves to have a moan whenever anything goes in the favour of the Bears.

No matter where the ball is, you cannot just commit fouls such as that and not see it go unpunished – it would still be a foul if at the other side of the pitch.

Dundee boss Mark McGhee even admitted himself that it was the right decision, and that is an opinion we would value more given his role and direct closeness to what happened.

Tavernier will obviously be fuming with what happened next, but the skipper will ultimately feel relief today as Aaron Ramsey and Connor Goldson bailed him out.

With the Old Firm at Ibrox coming up after the break, the pressure will be ramped up on the officials, and hopefully, that doesn’t affect their performance too much.

This is the biggest derby in years with so much riding on it, so let’s hope for an afternoon with little controversy, and a huge three points for the Bears.
