Mark Hateley raves about Rangers defender Connor Goldson

Rangers stay close to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race after winning 2-1 against Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday (20 March).

Despite trailing by 1-0 at the break, the visitors returned strongly, and goals from Aaron Ramsey and Connor Goldson sealed the tie.

Former Gers, Mark Hateley, was full of praise for Goldson after he scored the winner in the 85th minute.

Hateley said, as relayed by the BBC Sport website: “It’s a terrific move, very direct. Great ball through for an overlapping centre-half who is following the ball with determination to get into the box and cause trouble.”

Superb

It wasn’t a spectacular performance from the Champions, but they did just enough to edge out their rivals on Sunday.

Unlike Celtic, there have been games, where the Gers failed to pick up maximum points when they were not at their best.

Today, it was different. Goldson, who scored in the Scottish Cup against the same opponent, found the target once again.

Kemar Roofe, who was outstanding after coming on from the bench, was involved in both goals. This time, Goldson followed his own ball out of defence, and scored from 12 yards out after Roofe’s shot was blocked.

The defender showed great composure to put it high into the roof of the net.

Goldson will become a free agent in the summer. Despite several attempts made by the club, they couldn’t agree to a deal with the player.

However, the Gers are happy with the contributions he has made for the club. It would be really nice if he bids farewell after helping his side win another league title.

In other Rangers news, the club may sign a Dutch international to replace Allan McGregor and the keeper’s contract also expires in the summer.
