Kris Boyd slams referee for big decision in Rangers clash v Dundee

Kris Boyd has questioned referee Bobby Madden for his decision in the first half as Rangers entered the break 1-0 down against Dundee.

Alfredo Morelos looked set to score as the ball was whipped in from the right-hand side, but the Columbian was dragged down at the back post.

Boyd admitted the penalty was soft but believes further action should have been taken by Madden.

He said live on Sky Sports: “There is a little tug there, but it is soft there is no getting away from it.

“The thing after that for me is once Michael Gillen makes the decision that it is a penalty kick, he’s got to send him off because he is stopping a clear and obvious goalscoring opportunity with no attempt to play the ball.

“And that’s just in the rule book.”

Wake up

That could be the difference between Rangers securing the title and not as the race between them and Celtic continues.

There are fine, fine margins between the Glaswegian rivals and that decision could be costly. If it was a penalty, it should have been a red card. It is as simple as that.

Rangers

What is the referee thinking? Morelos would have undoubtedly levelled the scoring and the Gers fans would have preferred that then James Tavernier firing the ball over the bar.

That doesn’t take anything away from the horrible Rangers performance though. The Light Blues have had a very lacklustre start to the Scottish Premiership clash against Dundee and if they don’t turn things around and go on to win the game, the title charge is as good as over.

There is more than enough quality to flip this game on its head in a matter of minutes but maybe the players need it to be a European game under the floodlights to come alive.
