Rangers ‘don’t fear anybody’ in Europa League in James Tavernier’s eyes

Rangers booked their place in the Europa League quarter-finals last night despite suffering a 2-1 defeat away at Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade.

Their defeat on the day did little to dampen the celebrations after the resounding 3-0 home win at Ibrox was enough to help the Light Blues over the line.

Gers captain James Tavernier was on great form when speaking to the media last night and insisted that they have nothing to fear in the last eight.

“It’s an unbelievable achievement to get past that hurdle and get into the quarters now,” the skipper said, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.

“We just need to wait and see who we get. We will all be watching and it will be exciting.

“We don’t fear anybody. We have great belief in ourselves and the team. If we all perform, we can challenge the best.

“That is the key. The confidence we have taken from these games has to carry on.”

Bring it on

There is not a team in the world that would fancy a trip to Ibrox right now with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side conquering whoever is put in front of them.

Even the mighty Barcelona might prefer to pay elsewhere and the “massive” West Ham would probably prefer a trip onto the continent if they could pick their opponents.

That is how dangerous Rangers are when they are in full flight and there should be no reason why they can’t go on to win the entire competition.

Maybe they will miss out on back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles as a result but a Europa League win is far more noteworthy than that.

It’s not only the glory either as winning this competition will see the Light Blues automatically qualify for the Champions League which is where they ultimately desire to be.

In other Rangers news, the club are considering pulling out of the Sydney Super Cup in December for this reason.
