Rangers considering Sydney tournament u-turn – report
Rangers are considering a u-turn on their controversial plans for a friendly with Celtic in Australia in November, according to Daily Record.
The two Glasgow giants announced plans for a mid-season tour down under to take part in the Sydney Super Cup, which would’ve hosted the first ever Old Firm derby outside of Scotland.
But fans were furious at the proposals and immediately released statements against the idea of an ‘Old Firm friendly’, but bosses initially held firm that it would take place.

But now according to the Daily Record, Rangers are considering pulling out of the plans after the backlash received from fans.
They claim that Rangers could get hit with a seven-figure penalty for aborting their trip, but the senior figures in charge of the tournament are worried that the Bears could pull out after abuse received by some of their board members.
Finally
It’s taken a while for them to finally see the light but it seems as though the Rangers board are finally about to do the right thing.
This ‘friendly’ had no place being agreed to without fans first being consulted and while there is the chance to earn big money for it, it’s not worth it.

Fans will be delighted that it’s our club that are backing out of the plans, because it shows that they’re listening and they do care somewhat about what we think.
There will be opportunities to make money in the mid-season break and fans will back the ideas if it helps the club, so long as it doesn’t put the integrity of the club at risk.
Rangers are putting their fans first and while it’s probably taken too long for them to come to this decision, the important thing is that they’ve come to it at all. It’s the right thing to do.
