Milan Pavkov suggests Red Star would welcome half-time lead v Rangers

Red Star striker Milan Pavkov says it’s not “impossible” to replicate what happened at Glasgow as his side take on Rangers in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16.

The Gers have taken a 3-0 lead in the first leg at Ibrox, and they are favourites to go through to the last eight.

However, the Marakana is known for its daunting atmosphere. Pavkov suggests they were unlucky at Ibrox.

Pavkov said as quoted by The Evening Times: “The chemistry between us is good and I hope we have more luck.

“One goal in the first half would be welcome. The same result from Glasgow is not impossible.

“I hope Rangers used all their luck in Glasgow. We were unlucky then, I hope it will come back to us now.”

Tough talk

Obviously, Red Star players will try to make positive comments ahead of the clash to boost their confidence.

In European games, you need a bit of luck. It’s not like Red Star cannot win this tie, but one goal from Rangers will make their job harder.

Red Star can take inspiration from Liverpool who defeated Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield after going 3-0 down at Camp Nou in the first leg.

Having said that, the Gers were not lucky in the first leg. They fully deserved to win it.

The Scottish champions are in good form recently (won four games in a row) and there won’t be any shortage of confidence having defeated Borussia Dortmund away from home in this competition already.

It will be interesting to see how the Gers approach this game. With Red Star looking to score goals, it promises to be an open game, which will suit the visitors.

They are expected to come out all guns blazing and it could open space for counter-attacks.
