Stuart Munro predicts Rangers v Celtic title race, shares verdict on friendly in Australia

Ibrox Icon Stuart Munro expects Rangers to come out ahead of Celtic in the SPFL title race this season.

An ally of Hoops boss Ange Postecoglu, the former Gers defender has been impressed with the job he’s done at Parkhead.

However, he does not see them denting Rangers’ hopes of sealing their 56th league title in a few months’ time.

Rangers

Speaking to Sun Sport, he said, “I know Ange pretty well from his days working in Australia and I am not surprised at the improvement in Celtic.

“He is doing a good job but I can’t really wish him good luck as I want Rangers to finish the season on top. If Rangers get the upper hand in the next few months, then it can be a celebration of another successful Rangers season instead.”

He then discussed the friendly game that has been scheduled in Ange’s country Australia against Celtic around the time the World Cup will be played towards the end of the year.

While he admits to have read the arguments for and against it, he believes it’s a good financial move to go ahead with it.

He continues, “I understand the various points of view on whether it should be happening or not.

“Personally, living so far away, I think it’s wonderful that people will get to see a Rangers against Celtic match in Australia.

“I have a lot of friends who want to be there and it’s clearly good financially for Rangers and Celtic.”

Integrity

It surely helps financially, but it is about the integrity of an Old Firm.

We get the argument of wanting to promote the derby in different countries, but not in the home country of a Celtic manager.

Also, it makes little sense to play that game when most players will be out on international duty.

While Munro believes it’s a good idea, Gers could turn it into a special occasion and become party poopers for the crowd down under.

If they go into that game as defending champions, there will already be arrogance in the Gers dressing room before kick off and that could give them the boost to thrive.

In other Rangers news, the club may sign a Dutch international to replace Allan McGregor and the keeper’s contract also expires in the summer.
